Major Gal Shabbat z"l

Fell on the 11th of Iyar, 5784 (May 19, 2024)

Gal Shabbat, 24, from Katzir, was always extremely present and lived in the moment. He was a true leader. Extremely humble, loved everyone, and always judged people favorably. His ability to unite people, and bring his soldiers together was extremely special. He would often say “our pain is temporary, but our pride is eternal”. Gal was extremely proud to protect Israel and fight in this war.

Captain Roy Beit Yaakov z"l

Fell on the 7th of Iyar, 5784 (May 15, 2024)

Roy Beit Yaakov, 22, from Eli, was a respected and professional platoon commander. His valiant efforts on October 7 earned him high praise from those around him. Beit Yaakov’s leadership was marked by his dedication and professionalism, ensuring that his platoon was well-led and cared for, reflecting his strong sense of responsibility and skill in combat.

Staff Sergeant Betzalel David Shashuah z"l

Fell on the 7th of Iyar, 5784 (May 15, 2024)

Betzalel David Shashuah, 21, from Tel Aviv, was a figure of unity and inspiration. He was known for his steadfast resolve and ability to motivate those around him, never allowing anyone to give up on themselves. Betzalel David’s leadership and dedication were evident in his decision to forgo his release to remain on the frontline with his comrades, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment to his role.

Staff Sergeant Gilad Arye Boim z"l

Sergeant Daniel Chemu z"l

Fell on the 7th of Iyar, 5784 (May 15, 2024)

Daniel Chemu, 20, from a Haredi community in Tiberias, was known for his philanthropic spirit and dedication. Daniel was deeply committed to helping others, exemplified by his voluntary bone marrow donation which saved a recipient’s life. He served in the IDF with a sense of responsibility and commitment, balancing his philanthropic efforts with his military duties.

Sergeant Ilan Cohen z"l

Fell on the 7th of Iyar, 5784 (May 15, 2024)

Ilan Cohen, 20, immigrated to Israel from Buenos Aires to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces. At Har Bracha Hesder yeshiva, he combined Talmudic studies with military service. Ilan, a lone soldier, was known for his intellectual curiosity and unquenchable desire to learn and grow. His values and ethics were second to none, and he was recognized for his ability to integrate quickly into both social and academic environments, even overcoming difficulties with Hebrew. Fearless and Zionistic, Ilan’s dedication to his service was deeply admired.

Staff sergeant Benjamin Loeb z"l

Fell on the 22nd of Tishrei, 5784 (October 7, 2023)

Binyamin Lev was a Chayal Boded from France, serving in the Chetz unit. When the war broke out, he and his Tzevet headed down south without hesitating. Upon arrival at Kfar Azza, they were ambushed by terrorists. One of the soldiers was hit, and Binyamin joined the combat medic in evacuating him to cover for treatment. While trying to save a friend’s life, Binyamin was hit by heavy fire. We will be forever indebted to Binyamin for the ultimate sacrifice he made for the land of Israel.

Eliyahu David Kay z"l

Fell on the 17th of Kislev, 5782 (November 21, 2021)

Eli David Kay, from Modiin, was murdered in a terrorist attack in the Old City of Jerusalem, near the entrance to the Temple Mount, while on his way to work as a tour guide at the Western Wall Plaza. Born in South Africa, Eli immigrated to Israel in 2016 to serve in the IDF as a lone soldier in the 202nd Battalion, Paratroopers Brigade. After his military service, he joined the "Ma'ahal u'Migdal" program of HaShomer HaChadash at Kibbutz Nirim, where he stayed for two years.  He was 26 years old at the time of his death.

Major Gal Shabbat z"l

Fell on the 11th of Iyar, 5784 (May 19, 2024)

Captain Gal Shabbat, from Katzir, commander of Chetz Company in the 202nd Battalion, Paratroopers Brigade, passed away from his wounds after being critically injured on May 15, 2024, during an encounter with terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip. He was 24 years old at the time of his death.
